Mirra Andreeva reaches China Open semi-finals in Beijing

Original: mirra andreeva

Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva has advanced to the semi-finals of the China Open in Beijing after a hard-fought win over Ekaterina Alexandrova, setting up a meeting with fellow young star Zheng Qinwen. Zheng became the first Chinese finalist in Beijing with a straight-sets win over Elise Mertens and said a blunt reality check from coach Pere Riba had angered her into form. Also in Beijing, Naomi Osaka fell to Karolina Muchova.

Why now: Andreeva's narrow run to the semis and the prospect of a showdown between two of the game's brightest young players are drawing wide attention during the China Open.
