Training for Modern Conflict in Contested Environments
Original: Capability in Adaptability: Training for Modern Conflicts in Contested Environments
RealClearDefense carries a piece arguing that military forces must prioritize adaptability when training for modern conflicts in contested environments. The argument reflects growing concern that near-peer rivals can disrupt communications, logistics and communications-dependent operations, meaning forces must be prepared to fight through degraded conditions rather than assume uncontested access to airspace, space and the electromagnetic spectrum.
Why now: Ongoing discussions about great-power rivalry and lessons from recent conflicts are driving attention to how militaries prepare for contested battlefield conditions.
