Mirra Andreeva advances at China Open

Original: mirra andreeva

Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva is in the spotlight after advancing at the China Open while other big names, including Naomi Osaka, fell in early rounds in Beijing. Tennis writers are also arguing she deserves to be part of the year-end world No. 1 conversation, pointing to her strong position in the WTA Race standings. Andreeva drew attention with a light-hearted comment about sometimes needing to 'smash a ball, but not a person'.

Why now: She won her latest match at the China Open while several higher-profile players lost, prompting debate about her rise toward the top of the rankings.
