Israeli residents return to Gaza border communities to rebuild

Original: 'We need to go. We need to help.' Israelis return to border to rebuild after Oct. 7

More than a year after the October 7 Hamas-led attack, Israeli residents of communities near the Gaza border are returning to rebuild their homes and lives. Many say they feel a duty to come back and help restore the devastated area, despite lingering security concerns and the trauma of the assault, which killed about 1,200 people and triggered the war in Gaza.

Why now: Ongoing rebuilding efforts and the war's aftermath keep attention on the border communities a year after the October 7 attack.
