Monbiot questions stockpiling advice for environmental catastrophe
Original: Stockpile food – and wash your hands: is that really how to prepare for environmental catastrophe?
Guardian columnist George Monbiot argues that advice to stockpile food and wash your hands misses the point about preparing for environmental catastrophe. In his column he contends the UK state is shifting its responsibilities onto individuals while simultaneously backing policies that push the country closer to crisis. The piece frames personal preparedness guidance as inadequate compared with systemic government action.
Why now: George Monbiot's new Guardian column criticising UK government preparedness policy is prompting debate about who is responsible for environmental crisis readiness.
