Christa Pike, Tennessee's only female death row inmate, is said to be 'angry and confused' after her execution did not go ahead. Pike was convicted of the 1995 murder of fellow student Colleen Slemmer, one of the most notorious murder cases in Tennessee, and has spent decades on death row fighting her sentence.
Why now: News of a failed execution of the state's only woman on death row has drawn attention to the case and to the death penalty process in Tennessee.
