Scientists have announced the first self-regulated nuclear clock, built around the thorium-229 transition, a milestone in precision timekeeping. Because the clock's tick depends on fundamental constants, researchers say it could detect tiny variations caused by dark matter, opening a new way to search for the elusive substance and test physics constants.
Why now: A breakthrough in nuclear clock technology with direct implications for dark matter research is newsworthy.
