Critics accuse Germany's Union parties of drifting to the far right

Original: Die # union hat sich von den Rechtsradikalen in ihren Reihen übernehmen lassen und sich nach dem Vorbild der Republikane

Commenters in Germany are accusing the Union parties of being taken over by right-wing radicals in their own ranks. The criticism says the party has modelled itself on the US Republicans and Donald Trump, abandoning claims of pragmatic realpolitik in favour of culture war politics and authoritarian tendencies. The debate reflects growing concern about the mainstream right's course ahead of German political contests.

Why now: Concern is growing that Germany's mainstream conservative parties are adopting far-right and Trump-style politics.
