Russian forces launched a large overnight drone attack on Ukraine between the evening of 7 October and the night of 8 October, using 142 Shahed-type strike UAVs, including 82 jet-powered models, along with Gerber drones and decoy drones. According to preliminary figures as of 09:30, Ukrainian air defences shot down or neutralised 126 of the drones.
Why now: The scale of the attack, with a high proportion of faster jet-powered Shahed drones, shows Russia intensifying its drone campaign against Ukrainian cities.
