Thousands of students marched in downtown Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday, October 7, protesting against election favorite Flavio Bolsonaro and the possibility of the far right returning to power in Brazil. The demonstration came as campaigning swung into action ahead of the runoff election, with opponents mobilising in the streets against the frontrunner.

Why now: A runoff election in Brazil is under way and the far right's possible return to power is sharply dividing voters.
