The European Union has withdrawn its sponsorship of an academic conference on disinformation after requests from Trump administration officials, according to the Guardian. The decision is drawing criticism from researchers and press freedom advocates, who see it as an example of US pressure shaping European policy on media integrity and free research at a sensitive moment for transatlantic relations.

Why now: People are discussing it because it suggests the EU is bowing to US government pressure on disinformation policy, a politically charged issue.
