Protests and fistfight erupt after data center moratorium vote postponed
Original: Protests, fistfight break out after data center moratorium vote postponed | CNN Politics
A local vote on a data center construction moratorium was postponed, prompting protests and a physical altercation, CNN reports. The clash highlights mounting community resistance to large-scale data center developments, which residents worry will strain water and power resources and alter neighborhoods. Data centers have become a flashpoint issue in several US communities as companies expand rapidly to meet AI-driven demand, with local officials often divided over pauses on new approvals.
Why now: Local resistance to data center expansion is intensifying, and a postponed vote sparked visible conflict that drew national coverage.
