SMS scam uses fake traffic fines to trick drivers in Mexico City
Original: multa
Mexico City drivers are being warned about a fraud scheme in which scammers send text messages claiming the recipient owes a traffic fine, directing them to fake payment pages to steal money and personal data. Authorities and news outlets urge people not to click links or pay through unofficial channels. The warning comes as the word 'multa' also surfaces in unrelated stories, including the NFL backing away from fines for misinterpreted player celebrations.
Why now: A text-message scam involving fake traffic fines in Mexico City is actively targeting drivers and spreading concern.
