California bans human-versus-robot cage fights
Original: California officials pull plug on human-versus-robot cage matches
California officials have stopped planned cage matches pitting humans against fighting robots, according to the New York Post. The event, which would have seen people square off against humanoid machines in controlled combat, was halted by state regulators. The decision is drawing attention as robotics companies push the limits of what their machines can do in public demonstrations.
Why now: Regulators stepping in on an unusual spectacle combining sports and robotics is novel and sparks debate over safety and hype around humanoid robots.
