IBM Advances to Stage C of DARPA Quantum Benchmarking Initiative

IBM has advanced to Stage C of DARPA's Quantum Benchmarking Initiative, a US Defense Department program to assess whether quantum computing technologies can deliver practical, scalable utility. The move means IBM will continue through a later phase of rigorous independent evaluation of its quantum computing roadmap. The company positions the milestone as validation of its approach to building fault-tolerant quantum computers, drawing attention from the physics and tech communities.

Why now: IBM's progression in a competitive Pentagon-backed quantum benchmarking program signals momentum in the race toward practical quantum computing.
