Eduardo Mendoza reflects on humour and fear

Original: eduardo mendoza

Spanish writer Eduardo Mendoza is drawing attention after remarks on how people face their problems, telling an interviewer that 'humour is always the hidden face of our fears.' His comments come as Spain's crime-fiction festival Getafe Negro holds its nineteenth edition, bringing together authors from Europe, America and Asia. Readers are sharing the writer's take on comedy as a response to anxiety.

Why now: Mendoza's comments on humour and fear are circulating alongside the Getafe Negro literary festival in Spain.
