Trump Approves Military's First Firing Squad Execution Since WWII

Original: Trump approved the military's 1st firing squad execution since WWII. Why now?

President Trump has approved the first execution by firing squad in the United States military since World War II. The decision, reported by NPR, has prompted questions about the timing and reasoning behind reviving a method of execution unused by the military for roughly eight decades, drawing attention amid broader debate over federal capital punishment.

Why now: The unusually rare use of a firing squad and questions about the political timing of the approval make the story newsworthy right now.
