ICANN Reveals 2026 Applications for New Generic Top-Level Domains
Original: ICANN Reveals 2026 Round Applications for New Generic Top-Level Domains
ICANN has published the applications received for its 2026 round of new generic top-level domains, the process that allows organisations to apply to operate new domain extensions beyond familiar endings like .com or .org. The disclosure follows the reopening of applications after more than a decade since the last major round in 2012, with the internet governance body now set to evaluate the submitted proposals.
Why now: ICANN has just published the list of applications in its first new gTLD round since 2012, a long-awaited milestone in internet domain governance.
