Russia's Ministry of Digital Development is running a nationwide vote, open until 8 November 2026, letting people choose which settlements of 100 to 1,000 residents — villages, towns or hamlets in their region — should be provided with mobile internet. The initiative invites citizens to prioritise connectivity for the smallest communities, and it is being discussed online alongside sarcastic commentary about the state of Russian internet policy.

Why now: The unusual public vote on mobile internet coverage for tiny settlements has drawn attention and ironic commentary online.
