Israel's Minister of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism is being criticised after responding to anti-racist criticism of Zionism with remarks described as blatant anti-immigrant racism. Commenters argue the exchange shows that neither the Israeli government nor Zionism can credibly claim to stand against racism, and question how the minister's stated mandate to fight antisemitism squares with the rhetoric directed at critics.
Why now: The minister's combative response to a critic drew accusations of racism, fuelling ongoing debate about Israel and diaspora politics.
