North Carolina Republicans tout gas tax cut ahead of elections

Original: NC Republicans tout a gas tax cut that Democrats call an election-season desperation move

North Carolina Republicans are promoting a cut to the state's gas tax, framing it as relief for drivers and a sign of fiscal responsibility. State Democrats dismiss the move as an election-season desperation ploy rather than a genuine policy achievement, setting up a partisan dispute over taxes heading into the campaign period.

Why now: Lawmakers and parties are highlighting the tax cut as a campaign issue in the lead-up to elections.
