World's largest penguin colony sees alarming decline
Original: World's largest penguin colony hit by 'alarming' decline in numbers
The world's largest penguin colony is reported to be suffering an 'alarming' decline in numbers, according to BBC coverage of new findings. The drop is raising concern among scientists, who link the trend to environmental pressures on the species' habitat. Conservationists say the scale of the decline underscores growing risks to Antarctic wildlife and the ecosystems penguins depend on for breeding and survival.
Why now: Fresh reporting on a major colony's sharp population decline is drawing concern amid ongoing climate change worries.
