Valencia keeps protest camp for 9 d'Octubre mascletà
Original: mascletá
Valencia's firecracker displays are in the news as the regional festival of 9 d'Octubre approaches. Councillor approval means the protest camp set up in the city's main square will remain in place while the mascletà takes place, combining festive tradition with ongoing demonstrations in the plaza.
Why now: The 9 d'Octubre festival mascletà is upcoming, and the decision that the protest camp will stay in the square during it is new and locally controversial.
