Dengue fever outbreak shaping up as worst in decades
Original: Statewide outbreak of Dengue Fever is shaping up to be the worst in decades
A statewide dengue fever outbreak is developing into what health officials describe as the worst in decades. Dengue, a mosquito-borne viral illness, can cause high fever, severe joint pain and, in serious cases, life-threatening complications. Health authorities are urging residents to use mosquito repellent, remove standing water and seek medical care if symptoms appear.
Why now: Rising case counts of a mosquito-borne disease are raising public health concerns and prompting warnings to residents.
