Canada accused of pulling support from disinformation conference
Original: @globalaffairs.canada.ca - can you tell us why you pulled support from this important academic #disinformation conferenc
Global Affairs Canada is being publicly asked why it withdrew support from an academic conference on disinformation at the last minute. Critics suggest that despite Ottawa's public gestures of solidarity with the European Union, pressure from the United States may have influenced the decision. The accusation is circulating among researchers and EU-focused commentators.
Why now: Questions about Canadian foreign-policy independence from US pressure are resonating amid current US-EU-Canada tensions.
