US troops on Okinawa face curfew after Marine murder charge
Original: U.S. troops on Okinawa facing curfew, alcohol ban after Marine charged with murder
U.S. military personnel on Okinawa, Japan, are facing a curfew and alcohol ban after a U.S. Marine was charged with murder. The restrictions affect American troops stationed across the island, where the long-standing U.S. military presence has repeatedly caused friction with local residents. The case is likely to renew tensions between Okinawan communities and the U.S. military over conduct of service members stationed there.
Why now: A U.S. Marine has just been charged with murder in Okinawa, prompting immediate restrictions on American troops and reviving local anger over the U.S. military presence.
