Northern Lights may be visible in nine US states tonight

Original: aurora borealis

A solar storm forecast suggests the aurora borealis could dip far enough south to be visible from up to nine US states on Monday night. Skywatchers are being told to look north after dark, away from city lights, for a chance to see the display. Interest in northern lights forecasts spikes whenever geomagnetic activity pushes the aurora into unusual latitudes.

Why now: A forecast of geomagnetic activity is prompting people to check whether the aurora will be visible from their area tonight.
