French cultural institutions join the fediverse this season
Original: 🧵 1/2 Rapide retour sur cette rentrée 2026 qui a vu pas mal de nouvelles structures culturelles se lancer dans l'aventur
Several major French cultural organisations launched fediverse accounts at the start of the 2026 season, including the Théâtre National de Bretagne in Rennes, Le Dôme science centre in Caen and the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. A cultural-sector commentator has been rounding up the arrivals, noting a growing movement of museums and theatres seeking independent, non-commercial social platforms to reach their audiences.
Why now: The wave of well-known French cultural institutions joining decentralised platforms is a notable shift in how the sector communicates online.
