Headline So Odd Readers Say 'Not the Onion'
Original: Not the onion
Social media users are sharing a story under the caption 'Not the onion', a common phrase used when real news sounds like satire from The Onion. The item has drawn thousands of engagements in the United States, with readers reacting to a headline that seems too absurd to be true, though it reportedly is.
Why now: People are amplifying a real news story whose content is so surreal it reads like parody.
