German speed skating community in dispute over DESG proposal
Original: deutsche eisschnelllauf- und shorttrack-gemeinschaft
A dispute has broken out within the German speed skating and short track community after a proposal from the DESG, the German speed skating association. The reaction has been sharply critical: one response describes the move as 'hardly possible to outdo in audacity', signalling anger at what is seen as an overreach by the association's leadership. Details of what exactly the DESG proposed remain limited, but the harsh language suggests a serious rift between the governing body and those it affects.
Why now: A provocative proposal by the DESG has drawn an unusually harsh public rebuke, sparking debate in the German skating community.
