Amateur astronomer captures Moon occulting Jupiter before dawn
Original: The Moon occults Jupiter and it's moons, shot from my backyard this morning before dawn. 🌒 Using the Dwarf Mini, I targe
Skywatchers shared images of the Moon passing in front of Jupiter and its moons early this morning, with one amateur astronomer capturing a timelapse from their backyard before dawn using a small smart telescope. Because the targeting software would not schedule Jupiter directly while it was below the horizon, they locked onto a nearby star instead and assembled the footage afterward. Occultations of Jupiter by the Moon draw attention because the planet and its Galilean moons visibly disappear and reappear behind the lunar edge.
Why now: A lunar occultation of Jupiter is a striking, time-limited astronomical event people are sharing photos and timelapses of.
