NATO jets scrambled as Romanian airspace monitoring catches Russian drone attack
Original: NATO jets deployed to 'monitor' Russian drone attack in Ukraine, Romania says
Romania says NATO fighter jets were deployed to monitor a Russian drone attack taking place in Ukraine near the Romanian border. The deployment reflects repeated episodes in which Russian strikes near NATO territory have prompted allied air patrols to safeguard the alliance's eastern flank. It underscores ongoing jitters in the region about spillover from Russia's war in Ukraine.
Why now: Russian strikes near NATO territory regularly raise fears of spillover and draw allied military responses.
