Carl Sagan's Pale Blue Dot image resonates anew
Original: Every person who ever lived, loved, and argued about everything has spent their entire life on that tiny speck — a mote
A striking photograph of Earth taken from about 6 billion kilometres away by Voyager 1 in 1990 shows the planet as a tiny speck of light. The image was remastered by NASA in 2020, and it is being shared again alongside Carl Sagan's famous reflection that every person who ever lived spent their life on that mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
Why now: The remastered Pale Blue Dot image and Sagan's meditation on humanity's smallness continue to move people whenever they resurface.
