A Linux user with a 2020 MacBook Air reports that a feature which boosts the laptop's speakers works well in practice. The main concern raised elsewhere has been possible audio distortion at higher volume, but the user says the sound is simply louder and stays clearer than speakers on other laptops they have owned. The discussion is circulating among free and open-source software enthusiasts.

Why now: Open-source developers and users are actively discussing audio improvements for Mac hardware running Linux.

• The only issue I've seen referenced with regard to using this fear is that it might cause some distortion, but in my case (MacBook Air 2020), I'm getting none of that. It's just louder and remains clearer than speakers I've had on other units. Huzzah! Linux # Gnome # FOSS #… · OrionKidder@mas.to · 2
