Voting has ended in a Tamil Nadu by-election, with turnout figures now being compiled. The contest features the ruling DMK, the opposition AIADMK, actor Vijay's TVK, and the NTK, making it an early test of TVK's electoral strength since its entry into politics. Counting and results are expected in the coming days, with parties watching the margins closely.
Why now: The close of polling in a Tamil Nadu by-election has drawn attention because it is seen as a test of TVK's strength against the established DMK and AIADMK.
