US Army to execute Fort Hood shooter by firing squad
Original: US military will execute Fort Hood shooter by firing squad, a first in 60 years
The US military is set to carry out the execution of the Fort Hood shooter by firing squad, a method not used by the military in about 60 years. The case has drawn attention for reviving an execution method rarely seen in modern America and for closing one of the military justice system's most prominent death penalty cases.
Why now: The use of a firing squad would be the first US military execution by that method in six decades, making it historically significant.
