Police have raided a gang accused of orchestrating fake gay asylum claims, according to BBC News footage of the operation. The group is alleged to have coached people to falsely present themselves as persecuted LGBT individuals to exploit asylum systems. The raid has drawn attention to organised fraud targeting immigration processes and raised debate about asylum vetting procedures.
Why now: The unusual nature of an organised gang exploiting sexual-orientation-based asylum claims is drawing wide attention.
