Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Farmers Eye New High-Yield Variety
Original: गन्ना
Sugarcane is dominating news in Uttar Pradesh, with reports that seeds of a new sugarcane variety will be available within a month in Shahjahanpur, according to district official Abhishek Anand. Coverage also highlights farmers forced to use manual mills as factory crushing has not begun, grower Kaushal Mishra topping the state in sugarcane production, and a shift from the underperforming Karan-4 variety to Karan-20, which reportedly yields 28 tonnes more with higher sweetness.
Why now: Farmers and local media are focused on the new variety's promised higher yields and ongoing delays in mill crushing.
