Drought conditions intensify across Maharashtra
Original: दुष्काळ
Drought is trending in India as Maharashtra faces worsening dry conditions. Reports from Ratnagiri say lack of rain has cracked paddy fields in the Konkan and stunted crops, while in Latur most of the fifteen barrages on the Manjra river have run dry. Separately, the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana is protesting again, demanding a higher sugar guarantee price and subsidies for sugarcane farmers.
Why now: Severe drought signs across multiple Maharashtra districts and fresh farmer protests have put the topic in the news.
