Latvian Troops Halt Armed Migrant Push from Belarus
Original: Latvian Troops Stop Armed Push of Migrants from Belarus
Latvian border forces have stopped an attempt by armed migrants to cross the border from Belarus. Officials say the group did not turn back peacefully, and troops were deployed to block the incursion. The incident marks an escalation in tensions along the Latvia–Belarus frontier, which has seen repeated pressure from organised migrant crossings that Latvia, Lithuania and Poland describe as deliberately engineered by Minsk.
Why now: Reports of armed migrants at the Belarus border signal an escalation in the ongoing border standoff that has repeatedly flared since 2021.
