MSU history professors fight college loneliness with tech bans
Original: MSU history professors tackle college loneliness with broad technology bans
History professors at Michigan State University are addressing student loneliness on campus by imposing broad bans on technology, encouraging students to disconnect from devices and engage more directly with one another. The approach reflects growing concern nationwide about isolation among college students and the role screens and smartphones play in weakening face-to-face social connections.
Why now: Rising concern about student loneliness and mental health has made classroom technology restrictions a debated topic.
