Minnesota Opera Orchestra musicians vote to authorize strike
Original: Minnesota Opera Orchestra musicians vote to authorize strike weeks before season opener
Musicians of the Minnesota Opera Orchestra have voted to authorize a strike, weeks ahead of the company's season opener. The vote gives union negotiators the option to call a work stoppage if contract talks fail, raising the prospect of a disrupted opening in the Twin Cities performing arts scene.
Why now: A strike vote just before opening night threatens the opera season and highlights ongoing labor disputes in the arts.
