20 detained in joint ICE, Wildlife and Fisheries operation on Louisiana coast
Original: 20 detained during joint ICE, Wildlife and Fisheries operation along Louisiana coast
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries carried out a joint operation along the Louisiana coast, resulting in 20 people being detained. Details about where exactly the arrests took place and the immigration status of those held have not been made clear. The operation has drawn attention because it pairs immigration enforcement with a state wildlife agency.
Why now: The unusual pairing of a state wildlife agency with federal immigration enforcement makes the operation notable.
