Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea escalate: diplomats expelled, ties severed
Original: Major Escalation Between Egypt, Ethiopia, and Eritrea: Expulsion of Diplomats, Severing of Ties, ...
Reports describe a major escalation among Egypt, Ethiopia, and Eritrea, including the expulsion of diplomats and the severing of diplomatic ties. The claims centre on a breakdown in relations between the three countries, which have been at odds in recent years, particularly over Ethiopia's Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Nile. Details about who expelled whom and the exact measures taken remain unclear.
Why now: Tensions over the Nile dam and regional alliances have made any reported diplomatic rupture between these three countries highly newsworthy.
