ProPublica has published a database documenting cases of American citizens detained by the Department of Homeland Security, including Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The project highlights civil rights complaints filed over these detentions. Critics are sharing it as evidence of overreach by immigration enforcement under the Trump administration, with calls for accountability.
Why now: Renewed scrutiny of immigration enforcement and civil rights complaints against DHS agencies has made citizen detentions a trending concern.
