Solar eruption could push northern lights over the US this week

Original: Powerful solar eruption is heading for Earth and could supercharge the northern lights over the US this week

A powerful solar eruption is travelling toward Earth and may trigger strong geomagnetic activity in the coming days. Space weather forecasters say the blast could supercharge the northern lights, potentially making the aurora visible much further south than usual, including over parts of the United States, depending on the strength and timing of the storm's arrival.

Why now: A rare chance to see the aurora from the US is drawing wide public interest this week.
