UN Special Rapporteur on Russia Mandate Extended for Another Year
Original: Mandate of the UN Special Rapporteur on Russia Extended for Another Year
The United Nations has extended the mandate of its Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Russian Federation for another year. The renewal, confirmed by Human Rights Watch, allows the independent expert to continue monitoring and reporting on rights conditions in Russia. The move reflects ongoing concern among UN member states and human rights organisations about the situation inside the country.
Why now: Human rights advocates and UN member states continue to push for sustained international scrutiny of Russia's rights record, making the renewal significant.
