ArcaneChat is being promoted as a messaging app that requires no phone number for registration, blocks spammers and scammers from contacting users, and encrypts all conversations end-to-end. Its supporters highlight extra features such as in-chat mini-apps and video calls, and frame it as an open-source Android option appealing to European users seeking digital autonomy.
Why now: Interest in privacy-respecting, open-source messaging alternatives is growing among users seeking to avoid phone-number-based platforms.
