Andy Díaz the only Italian nominated for World Athlete of the Year

Original: andy díaz

World Athletics has released its shortlist for Athlete of the Year, and triple jumper Andy Díaz is the only Italian nominated. Italian sports media are highlighting the omission of Olympic champion Gianmarco Tamberi, runner Nadia Battocletti and long jumper Larissa Iapichino, all left off the list despite strong seasons. Debate in Italy is focused on whether the selection process fairly reflects Italian athletics results.

Why now: Italian fans are reacting to the surprise exclusion of stars like Tamberi while only Andy Díaz made the nominee list.
