Home inspectors are pointing out a simple trick for dating an electrical panel: look at the installer's label. One example shows a panel installed by Rock Electric Inc. bearing a seven-digit phone number with no area code, a sign it predates the spread of area-code dialling. Knowing a panel's age matters when buying, selling or renovating a home, since older panels may need upgrading for safety.
